Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes your approach different?

My work blends evidence-based skills with empathy and lived experience by focusing on real-world transformation (like speaking up more confidently, setting boundaries, or finding value outside perfection).

I help people reframe negative patterns and build sustainable habits of self-compassion.

  • Where are you located?

My office is located in downtown La Mesa. I see clients both in person and virtually throughout the state of California. Virtual Therapy or Telehealth is the same service as in person and will be conducted via video format.

  • How do I pay?

Payment in full via credit or debit card is required at the end of each session. Your payment details will be collected prior to your initial appointment and retained for the duration of your treatment.

  • How do I get started?

The best way to get started is to reach out via email at therapybykimberlin@gmail.com or by phone at (619) 800-2506 and we can schedule a 15 minute consult to see if we would be a good fit. If we choose to work together, we will schedule our first intake session.

  • What issues does therapy with you help with?

I help people who struggle with perfectionism, burnout, self-criticism, and barriers like people-pleasing and insecure decision-making.

Many clients come in feeling overwhelmed or stuck because they tie worth to performance, therapy helps shift that narrative gently and skillfully.

  • What can I expect in my first session?

Your first session is a warm, collaborative conversation where we review what brought you to therapy, clarify your goals, and begin building trust.

You’ll also talk about logistics (frequency, scheduling, cancellation policies, confidentiality) and start identifying early patterns that matter most to you.

  • How do cancellations work?

To cancel or reschedule an appointment, you must provide at least 24 hours notice prior to your scheduled session. If less than 24 hours notice is given, you will be responsible for the full cost of the missed session, and the credit card on file will be charged for any no-show or late cancellation fees.

  • Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance. Sessions are $200 per hour. Many clients submit receipts to their insurance for reimbursement.

If you have a PPO, HSA, FSA plan or out-of-network benefits, your insurance may cover part of the cost. I am happy to answer questions on how to navigate this process.

  • How many sessions do most people need?

Most clients begin seeing meaningful shifts within 8–12 sessions, though everyone’s journey is unique.

Some focus on specific challenges (such as setting boundaries) and progress faster, while others benefit from deeper exploration of patterns that developed over time.

  • Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes! Virtual sessions are available for clients who need flexibility or are outside the local area.

Virtual or in-person, therapy goals and therapeutic alliance remain the priority; we’ll choose what fits your life best.
